Our Lead Software Engineer will begin by leading the creation of a family of new system interfaces supporting one of the largest administrative claims databases in the world. You’ll design and build scalable web services APIs deployed on AWS and create the first Data-as-a-Service solution that supports the system interoperability needs and overall integration strategy of our instantly recognizable client.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.

Technologies used may include GraphQL, REST, JSON, Docker, Kubernetes, etc. Your experience and good judgement will be invaluable as you help our team through the entire system lifecycle, supporting activities such as:

  • Requirements analysis
  • Solution evaluation, concept development, and detailed design
  • Development of the framework and API code
  • Quality control and defect resolution
  • Performance and reliability improvement
  • DevSecOps support and configuration management
  • AWS cloud security design and FedRAMP / FISMA compliance support
  • Ongoing operations and maintenance, enhancements support
  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure overall success of the project

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in web services development for enterprise applications
  • 2+ years of development experience with AWS cloud services such as Lambda, ECS, EKS, MSK, AWS Glue, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SNS, SMS
  • 1+ years of experience with GraphQL API development and implementation using proven open-source or commercial frameworks and tools
  • Demonstrated track record of working in fast-paced, distributed team environments
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with maintaining infrastructure as code with declarative configuration tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, etc.
  • Experience with container technology (Docker and Kubernetes, especially on AWS)
  • Experience with system health monitoring, such as AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, NewRelic, or similar
  • Experience with Agile or SAFe methodology
  • Experience developing high-performing SQL with large-scale relational databases (e.g., Teradata, PostgreSQL)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Data Engineering and ETL processing, as well as proficiency writing and delivering Data Engineering and ETL design specifications
