Position description
Performs Pathology frozen section procedures in the frozen section lab (preparation, processing, and/or staining of patient tissues) prior to the microscopic study and diagnosis by the Pathologist. Performs Pathology biopsy specimen grossing in the grossing lab (description, weight, color, simple dissection). Assists Pathologist Assistant or Pathologist with autopsy procedures in the morgue (preforming evisceration techniques). On-Call coverage for Frozen Section cases Holidays/Weekends. Interacts with physicians, nurses, and other allied health individuals in a manner which is helpful in understanding test availability for the department. Helps to problem-solve cases for Pathologists and other staff members as needed.

Qualifications
BS degree in biological, chemical or laboratory science required. One year of experience preferred. Must have completed an accredited Histology training program.

Additional qualifications
Working knowledge of the methods, instrumentation, grossing techniques, anatomy of the human body, evisceration techniques, and frozen section procedures is required. Must be able to work (rotating shifts) and evenings upon occasion as well as on call support.

License or certification
Clinical Laboratory Technologist (specialty Histology) Florida licensure HT (ASCP) and/or HTL (ASCP) national certification Valid Florida Driver’s License to be able to cover frozen section and on call procedures.
