Job Summary:

Human Resources Manager manages all matters regarding support staff, employee relations, HR compliance, benefits and payroll. This position will also oversee HR processes for the Firm’s support staff, including hiring, assignment, supervision, termination, annual evaluations, compensation cycles and improvement plans. Responsible for administration of employee benefits in all firm operations. Provides special guidance and assistance to all locations on various employee benefit plans. Surveys industry and/or community to determine firm’s competitive position in employee compensation and benefits. Develops, recommends, and installs approved, new, or modified plans and employee benefit policies, and supervises administration of existing plans. Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to firm and employee. Works to ensure the firm is following best practices and monitors compliance with firm policies and procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and manage part-time and full-time support staffing levels
  • Advertise, interview, checks references and hire qualified applicants
  • Establish and maintain an orientation program
  • Develop and revise personnel policies for inclusion in the Office Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Maintain the Office Policy and Procedure Manual and ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations within areas of responsibility
  • Develops standard job descriptions and position specifications for support staff; ensures annual review of job descriptions and position specifications
  • Administers annual wage and salary review of support staff. Monitors support staff salaries to ensure comparable job market salaries
  • Evaluate support staff periodically with individual and attorney/supervisor on a confidential basis. Counsels staff who are not meeting firm standards and discusses improvement methods. Guides attorney/supervisor through progressive discipline with individual staff member. Receives and considers staff problems on a confidential basis and acts as liaison between the employee and their supervisor. Prepares, if necessary, confidential “memo to file” and/or probationary memo and review same with employee.
  • Conducts interviews for support staff openings and extends offer of employment to qualified applicants.
  • Manages all employee benefit programs to include medical, dental, life, health savings, flexible spending, FMLA, disability, Employee Assistance Program, paid time off (PTO), and vision.
  • Assists labor attorney with response to EEOC, ADA, Workers’ Compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Advises firm on new and existing employment regulations and policies.
  • Handle performance issues, employee relations and conflict resolution consistent with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs. Resolve administrative issues with carrier representatives.
  • Obtains statistics and information in renewal process of all benefit plans to include arranging and conducting employee information presentations and enrollments.
  • Travels to satellite offices as needed to meet with attorneys and support staff. Conducts support staff meetings at branch locations.
  • Reviews and makes determination of request for leaves of absence. Approves vacation requests and maintains schedule of staff vacations and backup support. Monitors use of sick leave, vacation and other absences ensuring intersection with payroll.
  • Manages full scope of payroll functions for the firm.
  • Conduct audits to ensure that all State and Federal guidelines are being met.

Client is Seeking:

Position requires a BA/BS degree in human resources or related discipline; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position. Approximately 5-7 years progressively more responsible work experience in a human resources. Experience in a
professional services industry is preferred.
